Weekend in The Rockies

At the beginning of this year, we went to Banff, Sunshine ski resort and Lake Louise with a friend. We stayed at the Banff Rocky Mountain Resort which offers an affordable way for 3 people to stay in the same place without sharing a room – cost $318 for the two nights for all three of us. Not bad!

It was really nice to go back to Banff. As you may have read in my previous blogs, my body kinda gave up on me and walking was very painful… I sound like I’m 70 but nope, I’m 28!

Anyway, last time we were here in October winter had quite hit the Rockies. This time, it was truly a winter wonderland. Our trip was based around going skiing with our friend who regularly hits the slopes so I was excited to ski on an actual mountain rather than at COP (Calgary’s training ground).

When we arrived, my nerves got the best of me so I signed up for a lesson and was so happy they had spaces available 10 minutes before the began! Woop! It was fun, but I was actually relieved the lesson was over. I was using borrow skis for the first time and just struggled with going downhill and freaked out at any sign of a steep slope. It wasn’t my finest couple of hours but I made it down a few runs.

Afterwards, we had a lovely dinner at an arts centre, it was a random find we stumbled across when on the hunt for a swimming costume. We all ate the vegan burger and oh… my god. Amazing. And none of us are vegan. The Arts Centre is away from the main area of Banff, so I would recommend it if you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main town.

The next day we went to Lake Louise to go ice skating. I don’t think I’ll ever get over how beautiful Lake Louise is, regardless of the weather! We spent a few hours skating on the lake and enjoying the atmosphere.

I’d definitely be up for a weekend in the Rockies again… I’m desperate to see the Northern Lights, or go to Abraham Lake… just explore the Rockies even more!
